Dr. Angela Paige Cook

Sister Angela was raised in Washington, D.C.where she grew up in a family of educators. She received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Theater Arts at Fisk University in Nashville.  Dr. Cook then pursued a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education at Wheelock College in Massachusetts. From 1980-81 she served as an Urban Studies Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.  In 1995, she completed her Ph.D. program that focused on Leadership in Urban Education at the University of Massachusetts.  Her dissertation was on the importance and effectiveness of a cultural resonant curriculum in African American communities.

Brother Joe was raised on a farm in Besemer, Alabama which inspired his interest in science and math.  He received a Bachelor's degree in Physics and Mathematics at Fisk University in Nashville.  Mr. Cook pursued a Masters in Physics program at Vanderbilt University.  From 1993-95 he was a research associate in the Media Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a Computers in the Classroom Project.  He explored Logo programming techniques for classroom instruction under the direction of Seymour Papert.  He is currently working on his Ph.D. in Physics at Northeastern University.  Brother Joe became a seminarian in the Roxbury St. John/St. James Episcopal Church in 1970.

Sister Angela has lectured on early childhood education / education for African American children at: Williams College, Hampshire College, Tufts University, WellesleyCollege, Northeastern University, UMass, WRBB, WGBH, Channel 5 News, Channel 7/Urban Update.  She has been both a professor and advisor of Early Childhood education at Wheelock College, UMass and Roxbury Community College

Brother Joe has been showcasing African music, poetry, dancing, art and philosophy for over 30 years in the Boston community.  He performs with his students at universities, churches, schools, festivals, political arenas, and cultural events.  He has been a mathematics, statistics, calculus and computer technology professor at Roxbury Community College.
